Power Protection or Power Continuity?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

nullThe term ‘power protection‘ is one commonly used within the UPS industry. The approach is one of providing protection to power critical components. A new approach being pionered by Riello UPS is that of ‘power continuity’ and the design, installation and maintenance of a power continuity plan.

One could argue that this is semantics but there is a subtle difference. Power protection is a more reactive approach, whilst power continuity is more proactive. The latter implies that a formal approach has been made to powering critical devices as part of an overall business continuity plan and is another of the reasons why Riello UPS published its own guide to power continuity planning.
